How about if I don't think it's "gay", rather flat out rediculous? Can I post below the line then?

Battlefield 2 or COD 2 will be more to your liking.
Most people don't want to try to cast a meteor storm against someone with a humvee and a shoulder mounted rocket launcher.
It would certainly be easier to defeat the doppleganger if you were commander and could call in artillary on his position.
|
UAV now transmiting on the doppleganger. lol. I think this would be an interesting idea, and for all you naysayers i belive that final fantasy had something incorporated into it like a magical gunner. And that is a mideval game with swords and such. I think it would have to be better thought out though.

I dunno about a whole class, but I'd sorta like to see musketry and grenades as part of an engineer class. I don't think they're especially out of place in Tyria - those trebuchets seem to be flinging bombs, so...

How bout this, to satisfy both sides of the idea? Keep rangers. Give them cross-bows, it’s close enough to a gun but not quite. (Adding another type of weapon for rangers which addresses another form of complaint I've seen)
The reason I say cross-bows instead of guns is the simple fact that a gun in the era we're referring to (and actually they did have "guns" long ago that worked much like a potatoes gun) were extremely unreliable, could only be fire once, and were more likely to kill you than the enemy. Now as posted before there is already things like gun powder so I could see being able to do explosives. In this sense give rangers an explosive trap. This works just like setting a bomb with a fuse or a trip wire. As for projectile type explosives rangers pretty well have that covered with ignite arrows (and trust me it's effective, Avacara tend to be very nasty with that skill and dual shot)
Does this seem more agreeable to everyone?

FF8 had the gunblade (a sword with a gun built into the hilt).
Terrible idea.

I don't understand why people are saying that a gun wouldn't work because of how long they took to reload. It's not like bows fire at realistic rates in GW either.

Warcraft3 has a dwarf sniper with a musket. I'm sure it would be popular in GWs too.
perhaps Demolitions expert as a 2nd class...

Regardless of whether or not gunpowder weapons are historically accurate for the time period (which is impossible, because GW doesn't have a time period), I don't think it would work. I don't even think crossbows would fit well into the game.

Well, aside from the guns/grenades/and things, this post..
well. Maybe not. Still not a good idea all around, I'm not flaming this post, or it's creator, as he obviously has an active imagination, but if you could theme it more in tune with the game "medieval" as it stands, you can't go wrong.
Don't worry, true genious lies in actions not words or clicks. Keep thinkin and come up with something original for medieval times, and maybe I'll /sign this.
Until then

Well its a mixed response at best here. Thanks to those of you who expressed interest, but i can take a hint. Clearly my idea isnt popular with the majority of guild wars players so if any body else would like to use this thread for their own ideas, that would be most welcome.

Ideas are good, and I think it's great to express them to get other opinions. Flaming with things like "that's just gay" etc... is pretty useless in my opinion. If someone goes out on a limb to share their thoughts with others, at least have the common courtesy to use constructive criticism by sharing the reasons why you dislike the idea, thus sparking a more intelligent conversation than discussing the sexuality of said idea.
On that note, my reason for not wanting to see the addition of artillery of any kind into GW, aside from agreeing with Sister Rosette's comments about medieval theming, etc... is that I play different games for different moods. I bought GW as an aside from my normal gaming mode of FPS's. If guns or any other artillery become a part of GW, it would defeat my purpose for playing in the first place.

The idea itself isnt this bad.
Lets devide it into 2 parts :
1) Its a question of style. Whether the atmosphere/integrity of the game is disturbed or not depends on the developers and strongly on the grafix used. A "metal-armored soldier" with "cluster-grenades" can be turned into a "dust-bag" throwing alchemist/chemistry by other gfx alone. Mines = traps.. wards = energyshield...acidfog = dusttrap...sonicwave = aoESpell..etc.. I guess this part isnt the problem.
2) the problem i see is the skillballance/cybernetics. Since any type of gun/rifle has way more firepower than a bow it should do more damage and have longer recharge time. And giving any class more nonprepared firepower means only one thing : more spikegroups. and i think rangers spike already very hard if one doesnt have aegis/shields up/wards.
A thing/class i miss in the game is someone doing very low, but very fast, and constant damage beside Dots. someone throwing shurikans/scratching on your legs like pets.. lol. Same thing for spells (ok we have stonedaggers/flare here) and more for conditions (2 seconds/criplled blind for 2 mana)... not a threat alone, but in great numbers devastating.... goblins or stuff.
Another class i miss is a real paladin. Dont tell me a taktic-warriror/passiv-protter substitutes auras.

Well thanks Urda, yours is just the kind of post im looking for, its constructive yet honest.
I stilll havent seen any other class based ideas posted yet, surely someone would like to offer a more popular alternative to my rifelman.
Not that it would be too difficult....

GW isn't Warcraft.
In my view, this idea is lame. It doesn't fit the idea of Guild Wars at all, and I really don't think it would go well in battles with other classes, or even PvP. Really incorporating guns into this game would just be silly. You've got the ranger with his bow, and you've got the caster with staffs and wands, and the warrior with his melee weapons. Now think about it: bravado warriors weren't still running around the battlefield at the same time that musketeers/hand cannoneers were powering them down.
I know Guild Wars isn't supposed to thoroughly realistic (for example, there is a thing called magic in it), but I just can't see guns fitting into the game. Besides, think of his skills. What would they be? Point Blank Shot? Power Shot? Debilitating Shot? Oh wait, no they're ranger skills. Throw Bomb? Plant Personnel Mine? Hmmmm.
This idea really hasn't been thought through well enough, and even if it had I would reject it because I don't want guns in Guild Wars.
Go play a Shooter.

btw there was another thread started not very long ago called 'Certain Professions Ideas that I have heard and agreed with', which seemed to be ignored by most except those with such grammatical interest that they started arguing about the origins of the word 'sorcerer'. I posted a big idea on the thread but I was almost completely ignored.

First of all symeon ive already admitted defeat on the grenadier, and secondly why dont you post your idea here, i would be happy to have others use this space for their thoughts on classes and i always check my posts to make sure the glaringly obvious errors are kept to a minimum.
